STARKVILLE (HailState.com) – A pair of home SEC victories kept the Mississippi State women’s basketball team at No. 7 in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 Poll.
The Bulldogs claimed their 28th-straight week in the poll, including a ninth-consecutive week in the Top 10.
Mississippi State remained in the No. 7 spot after opening the home SEC slate with a 60-45 win against Auburn and an 80-55 victory against Arkansas.
The two wins improved Vic Schaefer’s squad to 16-1 overall and 3-0 in SEC play. MSU, which owns the nation’s sixth-longest win streak at 11 games, joins South Carolina as the only two undefeated teams in conference play.
The Gamecocks, State’s opponent in Starkville on Jan. 24, remained at No. 2. Kentucky followed the Bulldogs at No. 9, while Tennessee slipped one spot to 13th.
Texas A&M dropped two places to No. 15, while Florida, who MSU defeated 76-70 in the SEC opener, jumped into the poll at No. 20.
Missouri, State’s opponent Thursday in Columbia, fell to No. 24.
Tip for that contest is 7 p.m., and it will be available online and via the WatchESPN app on SEC Network +.
Mississippi State returns home Monday, Jan. 18, hosting in-state rival Ole Miss in a 6 p.m. contest on the SEC Network.
