JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Jackson Zoo will host a volunteer information session January 16 at noon for interested volunteers wanting to join the Zoo Crew.

The Zoo Crew is a dedicated group of volunteers that give a year commitment to help with various needs at the zoo.

There are volunteer opportunities with events, education, animal care and more.

To learn about potential opportunities visit our website: www.jacksonzoo.org /volunteer, then attend the Volunteer Information Session on Saturday, Jan. 16 at Noon located at the zoo’s Community Center.

“Our Zoo Crew is a group of dedicated adults that commit to working with the zoo throughout the year,” Lucy Barton, Director of Education said, “They are an integral part of the guest experience and function in roles such as, contact yard attendants, exhibit guides, and animal socializers.”

After joining the Zoo Crew, volunteers are asked to attend special training days on Jan. 30 and Feb. 6 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. It’s mandatory to attend both training days to learn about the history, safety, interpretation, and responsibilities associated with volunteering at the zoo.
