Rankin County Justice Court Judges have implemented a plan, starting January 19 - March 31, that allows a criminal defendant to avoid jail if they qualify.

Individuals must reach all of these qualifications:

- an arrest warrant has been issued for contempt for the defendant's failure to make timely payments to Rankin County Justice Court; and

- BEFORE the defendant is arrested, they voluntarily appear at Rankin County Justice Court between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; and

- the defendant pays twenty-five percent (25%) of the amount due; and

- the defendant pays at least fifty dollars ($50) per month on the remaining balance.

This plan ends on March 31.

Anyone who wants to see if they qualify may call 601-824-2665 after January 13.
