Rankin drug task force seizes half million cash in traffic stop

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Flowood police officer, assigned to the Rankin County Sheriff's Drug Interdiction Task Force, stopped a 2016 Chevy Malibu on Interstate 20 westbound near Pelahatchie for careless driving.

During the stop Officer Johns smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle.

The driver, identified as Henry Anthony Burrows III, admitted to smoking marijuana earlier that day.

Officer Johns removed the driver along with two passengers from the vehicle and conducted a search.

His search revealed some scales and a jar with a heavy smell of marijuana.

A further search of the vehicle revealed a box and a suitcase both packed with a large amount of money.

Burrows, along with the passengers, identified as Christiana J. Sweet and Joseph W. Green Jr. were all transported to the Rankin County Jail.

Henry Anthony Burrows III was charged with money laundering.

Sweet and Green were both charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

The currency totaled over $500,000.00.

District Attorney Michael Guest will start the process of seizing the money.
