FLASHBACK to JANUARY 14, 1983: Shoppers get their final bargains at Woolco, one of the anchor stores at the Jackson Mall, before the store closes for good.

The discount department store chain was closing nationwide, but the timing was especially difficult for the Jackson Mall. It lost JCPenney in 1985 and Gayfers in 1987, both to the new Northpark Mall in Ridgeland.

Woolco had been one of the mall's anchor tenants since the mall opened in 1970. The mall eventually evolved into what we know as the Jackson Medical Mall today.
