FLASHBACK to JANUARY 15, 1996: An ice-skating rink opens in downtown Jackson, attracting skaters to enjoy the ice among the downtown high-rises.

It was just temporary, and it was built in the green space next to One Jackson Place (the former site of Jubilee!JAM that is now occupied by the Pinnacle building). A lot of the people who went to check it out had never ice-skated before, but the novelty of an outdoor rink in a place like Mississippi was enough to get them interested.

The rink remained in place until Valentine's Day, when the ice was melted and the rink dismantled.

Years later, a similar rink was constructed in Madison, at the corner of Highway 463 and Highland Colony Parkway. It was called "Christmas on Ice," and it was set up for three seasons.
