Car burglars hit 18 vehicles in Ridgeland

RIDGELAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Ridgeland police say they had an alarming 18 auto burglaries Thursday night.

The thieves hit cars at the Pear Orchard, and Trace apartments, which are only a block apart.

Lieutenant Brian Myers says that half of the cars hit, were unlocked, with valuables out in the open. 

"Money backpacks, basically anything that was visible in the vehicle were taken," said Myers.

Police say they have a person of interest. An officer stopped a suspicious car around the time of the burglaries.

Police plan to question the individual. In the meantime they're asking residents to report anything suspicious, and lock up their valuables.

Lieutenant Brian Myers said, "You know it's always important to lock your car, some of these were locked but don't leave anything of value visible in your vehicle as well."
