JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A man charged with killing five people in two counties and then attempting suicide has died in prison 22½ years later.

54-year-old Alan Curtis Dorris died of natural causes Saturday at Unit 30 at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman.

Dorris had been serving three life sentences, two from Washington County and one from Hinds County, for homicide/murder since Aug. 27, 1993.

Dorris, then 32, shot and killed two men and a teenager in a bar near Jackson, and then killed an elderly woman and her son in their Greenville home in July 1993, authorities said at the time.

He was later found lying outside his truck at a roadside park in Arkansas with a gunshot wound to the mouth.

Officials said he confessed to the killings in two notes found with him.

The victims were 41-year-old Ronald R. Johnson of Brandon; 33-year-old William Massey of Lena; and 16-year-old Stacey Cooksey of Florence, all killed in the bar.

The other two victims, killed in their home, were 75-year-old Reta Hobart and 35-year-old Thomas Hobart Jr.
