STARKVILLE (HailState.com) – Mississippi State will host its next Hail State Hoops Luncheon Wednesday boasting a No. 10 national ranking in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches polls.
The Bulldogs take the No. 10 ranking into a Thursday night road contest at Georgia before returning to Starkville on Sunday seeking to make “History At The Hump” with 10,000 fans for a 4 p.m. contest against No. 2 South Carolina.
Sunday’s contest will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2.
Vic Schaefer’s squad fell three places in the Associated Press poll and four spots in the USA Today poll after suffering its first SEC setback last Thursday at No. 24 Missouri.
In front of 7,128 fans, the second-largest crowd in school history, Mississippi State bounced back Monday and defeated in-state rival Ole Miss 79-51 to improve to 17-2 overall and 4-1 in league play.
Mississippi State earned its 29th-straight week by the Associated Press, the 12th-longest run in the nation, while claiming its 28th-consecutive week in the USA Today poll.
The Bulldogs have claimed 10-straight weeks in the Associated Press Top 10 and nine straight in the coaches poll.
Mississippi State is one of seven SEC teams ranked by AP and one of six in the coaches poll.
South Carolina and Kentucky rate Nos. 2 and 9, respectively, while Texas A&M stands 13th in the Associated Press poll and 12th by USA Today.
Tennessee earned a No. 18 rating by the Associated Press, while the coaches ranked it 22nd.
The Associated Press put Florida at No. 22, and USA Today had the Gators at No. 23. Missouri landed at No. 23 in this week’s AP poll.
Georgia, State’s foe at 6 p.m. CT Thursday, received two votes in the USA Today ranking.
