FLASHBACK to JANUARY 20, 2012: A Madison County man who had eluded authorities for nearly 24 hours emerges from the woods and surrenders to WLBT's Bert Case and chief photographer Jim Duncan.
Rodney Wayne Hill, 57, had been accused of threatening a neighbor with a gun the day before. Sheriff's deputies were unable to find him after he apparently slipped out of his house and hid in the woods. He later claimed that he had remained there overnight.
Soon after WLBT's Bert Case arrived to do a follow-up story at the house the next morning, a man who identified himself as Hill emerged from behind the house with one hand in the air and the other on a cross around his neck. When he told Bert who he was, Duncan instructed another WLBT photographer to call 911 while the man told his story to Bert. Sheriff Randy Tucker and his chief deputy soon arrived and took Hill into custody.
Hill later appeared before a judge. He was sent to the Mississippi State Hospital at Whitfield for a mental evaluation.
