JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Jackson City Councilman Kenneth Stokes is requesting an investigation from the U.S. Attorney General's office into the owner of Down Range Sporting Goods.

"Let's do something about these crooked gun dealers," said Councilman Stokes.

Stokes spoke out regarding signs the owner created and displayed at a recent gun show.

"A lot of illegal activity is taking place at these gun shows and if a gun dealer is crooked, that's how these guns get in these neighborhoods where we have so many murders," added Stokes. "We are asking for an investigation. That way we don't have to allege anything."

Councilman Stokes showed the media the letter he is sending to the U.S. Attorney General, requesting an investigation into Down Range Sporting Goods Owner Tim Wolverton and his business.

"I think he has violated some of these regulations and that's why we are not going to guess," said Stokes. "We will let the United States Attorney General's Office do the investigation."

"I'm just more surprised everyday by his ignorance," said Down Range Sporting Goods Owner Tim Wolverton. "It's to the point now I am running out of inventory, I'm trying to hire some extra help. It's really benefiting me because so many people disagree with Kenneth Stokes."

Stokes said he plans on bringing up the issue at the next Jackson City Council meeting.
