FLASHBACK to JANUARY 22, 2010: Rapids on the Reservoir, a once-popular water park on Spillway Road, is torn down.

The water slides, wave pool and other attractions had been closed for about two years, and a developer had announced plans to build luxury condominiums on the site. When the economy took a turn for the worse, there was an attempt to build apartments on the site. Nearby residents opposed that, and nothing was ever built.

While all that was going on, the park sat vacant and crumbling. It was finally cleaned up, and now the many summers of fun once enjoyed there are now just memories.

Rapids on the Reservoir opened in 1984. Its primary competitor was Waterland USA, situated between Highway 51 and Ridgewood Road in Ridgeland. After Waterland closed, some of its slides were moved to Rapids on the Reservoir, adding to the other slides and attractions already operating there.
