Deadly car wreck claims the life of a mother and son

VICKSBURG, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A mother and her son were killed after they were involved in a head on collision in Vicksburg early Saturday morning. Right now one man is behind bars facing charges.

The victim's sister spoke out about her sister.

Laketha Harris said, "She had taken Jarrett to the ER. He has asthma real bad and they were on their way back home."

40-year-old Cadelia Harris and her 9-year-old son, Jarrett Nelson, were just nine miles away from their Edwards home when they lost their lives in a head on collision.

Harris said, "Like, I'm just waiting on him and her to come through the door. We just lost our mom about four months ago."

The three car wreck happened about 2:45 Saturday morning on U.S. 80 near Green Hill Road in Vicksburg. Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper Eric Henry said a car was rear ended then the driver lost control spinning into on coming traffic colliding with Harris' car. The victim's older sister Laketha Harris said her sister was a beautiful woman inside and out.

Harris said, "She loved to cook, she loved to dance and she just loved people. She was just an all around person. Everybody knew her. She's going to be missed and her little boy, wow."

3rd grader at Bolton Edwards Elementary School, Jarrett was her sister's youngest child. Harris said he was full of life.

Harris said, "Wow, Jarrett was a sweet little boy. He was full of energy. Wrestling, wrestling, wrestling he loved wrestling."

MHP believes the driver of the third car who caused the accident left the scene. Cedrick Blackmore was later found at a Vicksburg home. He is now behind bars in the Warren County Jail charged with leaving the scene of an accident. Trooper Henry said more charges are pending as the investigation continues.

The driver and passenger of the car that collided with Harris are in a local hospital with serious injuries.
