VICKSBURG, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A mother and her son were instantly killed after they were involved in a head on collision in Vicksburg Saturday.

We talked to the family of the fatal accident victims.

"She had taken Jarrett to the ER. He has asthma real bad and they were on their way back home," said Laketha Harris, the victim's sister.

Forty-year-old Cadelia Harris and her nine-year-old son Jarrett Nelson were just nine miles away from their Edwards home when they lost their lives in a head on collision.

"Like, I'm just waiting on him and her to come through the door. We just lost our mom about four months ago," Harris added.

The three car wreck happened about 2:45 a.m. Saturday on U.S. 80 near Green Hill Road in Vicksburg.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper Eric Henry said a car was rear ended, the driver lost control spinning into on coming traffic colliding with Harris' car.

Harris, the older sister to the victim, says her sister was a beautiful woman inside and out.

"She loved to cook, she loved to dance and she just loved people. She was just an all around person. Everybody knew her. She's going to be missed and her little boy, wow," Harris added.

Jarrett was her sister's youngest child. He was a 3rd grader at Bolton Edwards Elementary. Harris says he was full of life.

"Wow, Jarrett was a sweet little boy. He was full of energy. Wrestling, wrestling, wrestling he loved wrestling," Harris added.

MHP believes the driver of the third car who caused the accident left the scene.

Cedrick Blackmore is believed to the the driver and he was later found at a Vicksburg home. He is now behind bars in the Warren County Jail charged with leaving the scene of an accident.

Trooper Henry says more charges are pending as the investigation continues.

The driver and passenger of the car that collided with Harris are in the hospital with serious injuries.
