JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

After a cool start Sunday morning, expect temperatures to climb to the middle 70s. Afternoon highs are running about 15 to 20 degrees above average. As for a chance of rain on Sunday, some forecast models indicate a sprinkle - I expect most of us to stay dry.

On Monday, expect partly to mostly cloudy skies as our next storm system approaches. At this point, the primary time frame for severe weather in Central & South Mississippi is from around lunch time Tuesday through the early evening hours. Storms will be capable of producing damaging winds, large hail and even tornadoes. While everyone at this point will be under a threat for tornadoes on Tuesday, the primary threat for tornadoes will be in our northern counties like Attala, Yazoo, Issaquena and counties north. However, the system should be monitored closely as just a 50 mile shift to the north or south will make a big difference. We'll continue to monitor the storm in the coming days!

This is a good time to review your tornado safety plan, have a NOAA Weather Radio programmed and ready to go and download our First Alert Weather App. In the mean time, enjoy this fantastic weekend!
