BRANDON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Gary Raymond Mapp from Brandon plead guilty and was sentenced to 55 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections for armed robbery, aggravated assault, kidnapping, and burglary.

On June 17, 2015 the Rankin County Sheriff's Office was called about a man who had been attacked, handcuffed, choked, and held at gunpoint.

This man told police he was at his girlfriend's house when he heard a knock on the door and saw a man standing outside wearing a ballistic vest with the words, "Hinds County Sheriff's Office" in a yellow patch on the front of the vest. The man was also carrying a semi-automatic handgun.

Mapp asked the victim to come outside where he handcuffed him and had him lay on the ground.

Then he drew his weapon and went inside the victim's house. When he came back out, he took the victim inside and forced him to the floor in the hallway.

Mapp then went through the house again before returning wearing a Halloween mask and taking the victim to the bathroom to go through his pockets.

The victim got up and tried to escape, but Mapp tackled and held him at gunpoint.

Finally, the victim escaped again and ran to the neighbor's house where police were called.

Mapp then escaped after stealing money and jewelry from the home.
