JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Greater Pearlie Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Jackson collected bottled water to help residents in Flint, Michigan.

Flint is experiencing a major crisis caused by lead in its drinking water.  Church leaders say they decided to lend a helping hand after hearing about the water drive hosted by students at Tougaloo College.

"We heard about it and immediately we got on the bandwagon," said Vickie Mason, Church Administrator for Greater Pearlie Grove M.B Church. "We can't go and fix the pipes in Flint, MI so the least we could do is go and take water to that effort."

Members of the congregation donated more than 600 cases of water.  The donations were loaded onto several trucks parked in front of the church on County Line Road Thursday morning.

The water was delivered to Tougaloo College and will be shipped to Flint.

"We are always doing things inside of the building," said Mason. "Now it's time for us to reach outside to the community and do more."
