MDOC parolee escapes Rankin Co. office

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Parolee Michael Lester Morgan is being sought by the Mississippi Department of Corrections after he escaped the Rankin County Probation and Parole Office in Pearl early Thursday.

Morgan, 44, escaped after having a revocation hearing related to his arrest in Hinds County on Dec. 3 on charges of possession of a stolen firearm, a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, violation of traffic ordinances, and possession of a controlled substance.

He has multiple convictions in Rankin, Copiah, Hinds and Sunflower counties, including for producing a controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a control substance with intent, sale of methamphetamine, fleeing law enforcement, and possession of contraband while in prison. His sentences total 23 years. He was last paroled on Aug. 4, 2014.

Morgan was noticed missing before 11:30 a.m. from the Probation and Parole Office on  Highway 468. He may have gotten into a 4-door gray or silver Acura sedan, for which the license plate is not immediately available.
