JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Jackson Police have released more information about what led them to issue an alert for women to be on their guard.

Officer Colendula Green said, "Carjackings, auto theft and armed robberies," said Officer Colendula Green.

Targeted specifically at women in the Capital City.

"These are random acts," added Green. "We do know these random acts started the beginning of January. The time frame is 8pm through the midnight hours. That's when the perpetrators are committing these crimes."

The Jackson Police Department is investigating six cases where women have been the target of violent crimes. In one case a University of Mississippi Medical Center resident was carjacked at gunpoint at the Fondren Hill Apartments and shot. Police want you to be observant and aware of your surroundings.

"These perpetrators are wearing dark hooded shirts with dark clothing. Their ages are between 16 and 20," said Green.

Officer Colendula Green said it's critical to be vigilant and keep your valuables out of site from the criminal element.

"When you are out at night, make sure you are accompanied by someone," said Green. "Don't go in dark, unlit areas, make sure you are not being distracted and use common sense."

If you have any information on who the suspects are, call Jackson Police at 601-355 TIPS.
