SOUPer Bowl draws hundreds to metro for good cause

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Some of the best restaurants in the Capital City came together Sunday for a huge fundraising effort to benefit the Jackson Salvation Army.

The 19th annual SOUPer Bowl brought together people from all over central Mississippi.

Capt. Ken Chapman with the Jackson Salvation Army said 32 different varieties of soup were available for participants to try.

"This is to bring awareness that there are people in our community who are hungry and are malnurished and are elderly. We take care of them all year long. Need knows no season," Chapman said "What better day than the day we gorge ourselves in the evening with our Super Bowl parties to think of the hungry and take care of them?"

More than 1600 people showed up to give their support.
