JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Jackson residents were encouraged to come out for a meeting Thursday night focused on reducing crime in South Jackson.

Ward 6 Councilman Tyrone Hendrix is hosting the "Taking Back Our Community" meeting in the Wingfield High School cafeteria at 6 p.m.

Police Chief Lee Vance, Sheriff Mason, and the district attorney will be there to answer questions. Hendrix says it's a strategy meeting to help residents go home with a plan to make their communities safer.

"This is not a normal town hall meeting. This is a strategy meeting with actionable steps we can take and implement immediately within our community," says Hendrix.

An Entergy representative will also be on hand to talk about keeping neighborhoods well lit to help deter crime.
