MAGEE, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Monday's storms are being blamed for a Simpson County oil spill.

A DEQ emergency responder tells us that during Monday night's storms, a tree uprooted and fell on an exposed oil line.

The line ruptured and oil leaked into a creek that flows into the Okatoma.

The spill is off Highway 28 in Magee. DEQ says the oil mixture is contained now.

The Okatoma Creek has been dammed in one area and the oil line rupture has been shut off.

Crews are working to vacuum up as much of the "bulk" oil as possible.
