JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

One man is in custody for allegedly starting a south Jackson house fire Wednesday evening. Firefighters arrived at the home just after 4:30 p.m. and found a working fire.

It was reported under control at 5 p.m. 50-year-old James Walker was taken into custody.

Our reporter talked with Walker's girlfriend, Donna Carter who explained what happened.

"And he called me and told me he was going to set it on fire. And I called 911 but then he called me back and said I'm not going to do it. So I thought he just pass out and next phone call I get is the neighbors that it's burning down," Carter explained.

Carter claims Walker was drunk and would normally fall asleep when he drinks but Wednesday he was angry.

"I asked him to get some help and he told me he didn't need help," she said. "This doesn't get any better if your having this same problem with the drinking and the fits of rage. Then it's not getting any better it's going to get worse."

This fire comes just a day before Carter will go to Baptist Hospital to have knee replacement surgery. She's devastated because she lost everything.

"We lost all of our clothes except what I packed to go to the hospital in and I had just set the bathroom and stuff up with handicap equipment and now that's all gone too," Carter said.

Walker is being held by authorities and will face arson charges.  The home has extensive damage and is unlivable.

No injuries have been reported and the investigation is ongoing.
