JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

More problems have surfaced in the I-55 road construction project south of Jackson.

A year ago they had to stop work because of a design flaw in the retaining walls, as well as unanticipated soil conditions.

MDOT then bid out the project, but the lowest bid had several major errors and could not be awarded.

Other bids exceeded the state's estimate and were not viable options. The project will be bid again next month.

"That was originally part of this process for us to split this into phase one and phase two right now," said MDOT spokesperson Morgan Miller. "They're just working on maintaining erosion control so we were just in that transition between two phases that was decided on a while back to work in this kind of process."

MDOT officials say this should not change their project completion date. The bids will open at the end of this month.

Motorists we talked to say they're ready for the construction to be over.

"They need to work it because it's messing up peoples cars and it really is it's tearing mine up you know and they ain't going to do nothing about it," said Joanne Walker. "If they do, it should have been done so they really need to do something."

MDOT officials say they won't have a completion date for phase 3 of this project until phase 2 is bid out. That is supposed to happen by April 15th.

We will keep you updated on any new information regarding this situation.
