Funeral arrangements for slain MBN agent announced

TISHOMINGO COUNTY (Mississippi News Now) -

Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics Agent Lee Tartt was killed in the line of duty early Saturday morning near Iuka in Tishomingo County. Tartt was 44-years-old and was a 22-year law enforcement veteran.

Funeral arrangements for Agent Tartt are as follows:

Visitation is Monday, 4 - 8 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church in Grenada. Funeral services are 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Grenada.

DPS Spokesperson Warren Strain said three state troopers were injured during the standoff and taken to area hospitals. Their conditions are unknown.

Friday night an armed man barricaded himself in a home southeast of Iuka with a woman and child.The employees were injured in a shootout. The suspect was shot and killed. The condition of the woman and child are unknown.

Strain said the MHP Swat Team and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation was on scene with Tishomingo County Sheriff's Department and other law enforcement.

Strain said it was initially characterized as a hostage situation, but they are not sure the woman and child were there against their will.

It's uncertain what lead up to the DPS officer's injuries.

Saturday the MS Bureau of Investigation released a statement on the deadly standoff.

A motorcade escorted Tartt's body from Tishomingo County Saturday to the state crime lab in Pearl.  

Agent Tartt had been with MBN for 16 years. During his time with MBN he won the 2011 MBN Agent of the Year award and received the H. Lane Caldwell Award of Valor in 2012.

Tartt is survived by his wife and two children.
