Family holds vigil for man killed at local pharmacy

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The family of Kenneth Barnes gathered at the site of his murder Friday night. Barnes, who was 48 years old, was shot to death at the Rite Aid on McDowell Road Sunday night.

His family met in the Rite Aid parking lot for a candlelight vigil. They say Barnes was an artist, made jewelry, and believed in keeping his community cleaned up.  His sisters and mother say his death has left a huge hole in their family.

"He really was like a humanitarian," said his sister, Rita Brown. "And everything he did, regardless of what he did not have, he never complained, he was always content with everything."

Jackson police have arrested, 29 year old Elysia Perkins. She is charged with murder. The family told us they were not aware of any connection between Barnes and Perkins.
