RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Mississippi law enforcement is mourning the death of an MBN agent killed in the line of duty.

A motorcade escorted the body of Agent Lee Tartt killed early Saturday morning in Tishomingo County.

Law officers saluted and lined the roadway leading to the State Crime lab in Pearl Saturday afternoon.

MHP Spokesman Warren Strain said Agent Tartt, a 22 year law enforcement officer, was shot and killed at a residence on County Road 201 southeast of Iuka.
According to investigators, the 44-year-old agent was fatally shot by 45-year-old Charles Lee Lambert, after six hours of negotiations.

MBN and MHP tactical teams were called to a domestic disturbance around 5:15 p.m. Friday southeast of Iuka, which later turned into a standoff.

Lambert, who officials said was armed with a high powered rifle, was killed after opening fire on law officers.

"The wife had come out earlier in the evening, but the 10-year-old child was still in and the tactical units went in. They were able to get the child out safely and unharmed, but there was an exchange of gunfire," said MHP Spokesman Warren Strain.

Three other state troopers were also shot. Two suffered non-life threatening injuries. A third trooper, more seriously injured, has undergone surgery and is listed in stable condition.

Tartt leaves behind a wife and two children.
