Jackson kindergarten students get free field trip

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A big surprise Thursday for the kindergarten students at Spann Elementary School in Jackson.

It began with First Lady Deborah Bryant reading to the students about a special little truck.

With the help of the Junior League of Jackson the surprise announcement was made.

75 students will get a free field trip to Touch a Truck Jackson. Touch a Truck allows the children to explore, climb and touch trucks, including emergency response vehicles, like a fire truck from the Jackson Fire Department and a vehicle from the Department of Public Safety.

Amanda Fontaine with the Junior League of Jackson said, "it will be held at Trustmark Park on April 16th. We have lots of trucks they can come in and touch everything. We have garbage trucks, we have big 18 wheelers, we have all kinds of thing for them to come in and touch. It's a really fun event. The whole parking lot is full."

Sponsors will cover the cost of the field trip.

Last year more than five thousand people attended Touch A Truck at Trustmark Park.
