JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Friday Rahim Williams left court headed back to jail, his bond denied by e judge on three counts of murder. Williams, arrested Thursday, is charged with fatally shooting Stephanie Mejia, and Janis Evans and her unborn child back in January.

The two families left court emotional after seeing the man charged in their loved ones death.

"Janis was a very loving person, she had lots of friends and I didn't know them but all of them called me grandma, said Janis Evans, the grandmother of one of the victims. "I just don't understand how this could have happened to her."

Mejia and Evans were gunned down on a sunny Sunday afternoon on Ventura Drive. Witnesses say they saw two people fleeing the scene.

The victims' relatives thanked Jackson Police investigators for their hard work, and for taking time to build their case.

"We do know there is another accomplice," said Fran Adams, mother-in-law of the victim. "We know you are out there young man or young woman. We're asking that your please come forward. You will be caught. You will have to turn yourself in. This is a tragedy that no one wants to experience, so were asking that you do come forward."

The big mystery now is motive.  What would lead someone to shoot two women, one of whom is pregnant?  We asked family members and investigators, neither could give us an answer.

Rahim Williams had been developed as a suspect in the murders while he was sitting in jail. He was picked up by police on January 27th, three days after the shooting, for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
