JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Jackson Police Department is proud to announce that it has received Accreditation from the Mississippi Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (MSLEAC).

Accreditation is the process in which certification of competency, authority, or credibility is presented in compliance as required by a governing authority (the State of Mississippi).

The Accreditation Commission reviewed the Department's policies and practices, interviewed personnel, and closely examined files specifically in regard to State accreditation.  JPD met 140 standards set forth by the Accreditation Commission.

Accreditation increases cooperation and coordination with other law enforcement agencies and branches of the criminal justice system. It also increases an agency's ability to prevent and control crime through more effective and efficient delivery of law enforcement services.

Accreditation policies address officers' safety issues and provide for adequate training. In addition, accreditation provides a higher rating, which results in more grant funding.
