JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Thursday, March 3 is American Red Cross Day at the Mississippi Capitol. It starts at 8 a.m. on the first floor.

Each year, the President of the United States proclaims March as Red Cross Month across the country, a tradition that began in 1943. During this month, Red Cross recognizes how the American Red Cross (ARC) helps people across the country and around the world.

Mississippi State Senator Sally Doty and State Representative Scott Bounds will join others in state houses, municipalities and county government by issuing a proclamation declaring March as Red Cross Month in the state of Mississippi.

The Red Cross responds to a community disaster every eight minutes, providing shelter, food, emotional support and other necessities to those affected. In the month of March ARC will recognize, around the country and right here in Mississippi, everyday heroes – those who reach out to help people in need. Red Cross month is a great time to become a part of the Red Cross.
