COLUMBUS, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Columbus man continues to recover today after being struck by a train.

Authorities say 56-year-old Bennie Walton was on his way to a convenience store  at about 8:15 p.m. Monday when he was struck by a train.
Witnesses say he tried to crawl under the train, which was stopped at the switch yard.
That's when authorities say the train ran him over and cut his leg.
Wallace and his leg were transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle. They were then flown to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson for emergency surgery and limb reattachment.
