JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Mississippi's unadjusted unemployment rate for February 2016 was 6.2%, that's slightly better than the January 2016 rate of 7%.

Regardless, lots of people are out of work.

Many people searching for jobs received some hope on Wednesday during the Mississippi Employment Expo hosted by the Governor's Job Fair Network of Mississippi.

"I'm hoping to walk out with a job," says job seeker Meagan Grantham.

Grantham decided to take her chances at Wednesday's Mississippi Employment Expo where representatives from nearly 90 companies met with potential candidates.

"There's a lot of us out there struggling, trying to work hard and provide and it's kind of tough out there right now," says Grantham.

According to the Mississippi Department of Employment Security, unemployment rates in all Mississippi counties dropped in February 2016.

Many Mississippians are still searching though. Job seeker Mary Brent says meeting employers face to face at a job fair beats trying to stand out through online applications.

"You get personal one on one information and they get to know you. Some of them if they're interested in you they'll write your name down and they'll say contact me or I'll contact you and that's a good sign," says Brent.

If you weren't able to make the job fair you can go to the Governor's Job Fair Network website to learn about many of the businesses that were represented.
