JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Thursday will feature rain and thunderstorms with the possibility for severe weather.

AM Commute: Showers will be around with some thunderstorms beginning to develop. Most thunderstorms will take place after the morning commute has ended. Temperatures are in the 60s and the sun comes up at 6:58 AM.

This Afternoon: Thunderstorms pass through, some of which could be severe. Concerns with any severe storms are mainly gusty winds and hail, and a tornado cannot be ruled out. Storms will likely end over the I-55 corridor during the early and mid afternoon, progressing farther east in the state from there. Areas east of I-55 have a slightly greater likelihood of seeing storms reach severe criteria.

What to know ahead of severe weather:

No matter when severe weather strikes, one of the best things you can have in this situation is a NOAA weather radio.

The app includes push alerts for severe weather warnings and the ability to submit weather photos and videos.

The alerts are sent based on the device's location, using GPS. This means you don't have to select any particular county - you are simply warned if severe.
