The Mississippi House has voted to expand the Jackson airport board by adding members who live outside the city.
Republicans pushing the change say the airport should have a regional board to better represent the customer base it serves.
Democrats who oppose the expansion say it's a power grab from Mississippi's majority-black capital city.
Senate Bill 2162 passed the House 74-46 after a heated debate Thursday.
Republicans supported the bill and Democrats opposed it.
The bill passed the Senate on March 3.
Because the House made changes, the bill returns to the Senate for more work.
