Newton County man pleads guilty to assault

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

36-year-old-Samuel Triplett from Newton County Mississippi, plead guilty on Tuesday, March 22 to assaulting his wife, who is a member of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.

Triplett, a non-Indian, admitted assaulting his wife on lands within the confines of the Conehatta Community.

He further admitted in federal court to breaking and entering the Beach Club at Geyser Falls on May 31, 2014.

Both the Conehatta Community and the Beach Club are on lands belonging to the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.

Triplett will be sentenced on June 7, 2016, and faces a maximum penalty of 17 years in
federal prison.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Glenda Haynes.
