An organization aimed at fighting blight in Jackson needs more people to volunteer their time to help improve the city. We are talking about the Keep Jackson Beautiful. One well-known sorority that works along with program led the way to clean up the Capital City.
The sound of progress could be heard in over at Executive Place street in North Jackson. The Beta Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha adopt the spot and spent the day getting their hands dirty to clean up the neighborhood.
“We purchased in the last couple of years a facility on the street and we are concerned with the area and we want to keep it beautiful, so Keep Jackson Beautiful is the best way to do that,” said volunteer Azande Williams.
They admit their community cleaning chores this Saturday were a bit of a challenge.
“We have been weeding, cleaning lawns and mowing and picking up trash,” volunteer Rose Franklin said.
Tondra Hall made the cleanup day a family affair.
“It is just great fun being together as a family,” said Hall.
“We want to make sure community looks good, so if we want play outside we can and not get interrupted and smell disgusting,” said volunteer Jarrett Hall.
The volunteers hope more people would commit to adopting a neighborhood or just joining in the fight Keep Jackson Beautiful.
“Jackson gets the bad rap for a lot of things and it is important for citizens to see other people who live her taking care of their community,” said volunteer John Hall.
The group is one of several doing this type of project in Jackson. If there is an area of the city you would like to adopt and help your local environment, please contact us at Keep Jackson Beautiful, Alicia Crudup at 601-953-1123, or firstname.lastname@example.org.
