CLINTON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Police are actively searching for the man they believe is part of a duo that broke into several homes Saturday morning in Clinton. Investigators said there was also a home invasion during the crime spree.

"Cash, jewelry and electronics," said Detective Josh Frazier.

Those are some of the items burglars stole from Clinton residents. Police are looking for 24 year old Johnathan Alexander. He is facing residential burglary charges. Police believe he and another man burglarized at least 4 homes Saturday morning.

"They used forced entry to get in all the residents, kicking in the door," added Frazier.

Detective Frazier said they believe the crime spree began just before 9 Saturday morning at a home in the Woodmoor Subdivision. Nearby residents said the suspects knocked on the front door asking the homeowner if she needed her yard cut.

"That is what we think happened because that is something similar that happened at another house," said Frazier. "The female was distracted at the front door when another male approached the rear of the house. So, we feel it was the same type MO."

Detective Frazier said the men flashed a handgun demanding money. Three more homes were hit in several areas including two homes on Green Oak Cove.

"Don't answer the door if you don't know who it is," said Frazier. "You can speak through the door. If it is someone there on official business you can ask for identification and call the police if you feel scared or threatened."

Police said it's critical to keep your doors and windows locked at all times. As for Alexander, police said the convicted felon has been behind bars for residential burglary in the past.

Police have recovered several of the stolen items from area pawnshops.

If you have any information on the burglaries or know where Alexander may be you are asked to call Crimestoppers at 601-355-TIPS.
