FLASHBACK to MARCH 29, 1993: The Green Derby, once a staple among Jackson's restaurants, is torn down to make way for a new business. The building at Highway 80 and Ellis Avenue was cleared for a new Denny's.

The Green Derby had originally been located farther west on Highway 80, at Robinson Street. It moved from that location in 1956 to the prominent southeast corner of 80 and Ellis, adjacent to the Drake Motel, where it served travelers and loyal locals alike for almost four more decades.

After the Green Derby closed, a Denny's restaurant was built on the site. Years later, the Denny's also was demolished to make way for a Wendy's, which is still operating there today.

More than half of the 17 people killed when a tourist boat sank on a Branson lake were members of the same Indiana family, and they likely wouldn't have been on the ill-fated trip but for a ticket mix-up.
