Wives of gov't officials arrested for shoplifting; one found with drugs

The wives of two government officials are behind bars for an illegal shopping spree at two metro-area department stores. 

On Monday, Ridgeland police arrested 36-year-old Amanda Vance Miles of Forest and 49-year-old Sheri Prestage of Morton -- for shoplifting from the Belk stores in Ridgeland and Flowood.

Both women were found with more than $2,000 worth of stolen jewelry.

Miles is the wife of District 75 Representative Tom Miles and Prestage is the wife of Scott County Constable Richard Prestage.

Police say Prestage was also found with a small quantity of Hydrocodone hidden in her undergarments. 

"These two ladies with this clothing description had stolen some merchandise from their store. they weren't able to apprehend them. They were just putting our store on notice just in case they showed up. about an hour later they walked into the northpark mall store and loss prevention people were able to start watching them on surveillance cameras at that time," said Ridgeland Police Chief John Neal.

Miles is charged with misdemeanor shoplifting, while Prestage faces charges of felony shoplifting and possession of a controlled substance.

Both posted bond in Ridgeland and were turned over to Flowood Police, who arrested them both for misdemeanor shoplifting Tuesday.

The women are due in court in Flowood on April 21st.
