LOUISVILLE (Belhaven.Blazers.edu) - Belhaven right-hander Julienne Broussard has been announced as the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III National Pitcher of the Week following her performance against Sul Ross last weekend. Broussard joined Tufts' Cassie Ruscz on the release, who was named the National Player of the Week.
Broussard earns her first Pitcher of the Week honor from the NFCA for the Blazers. The Carencro, La., native was 2-0 for the week, allowing just two hits over 8.2 innings while walking none and striking out 17.
Broussard pitched another complete game shutout and set a new career high for strikeouts in a game with her six-inning victory in the series opener. Broussard allowed just two hits in her shutout win, striking out a career high 12 batters, without allowing a walk or a hit batter.
Then in game three, Broussard tossed 2.2 perfect innings with five strikeouts to earn her second win in as many days.
For the week, Broussard limited opponents to a .071 batting average. She averaged just under two strikeouts per inning.
Broussard has a shutout in each of her last three starts and has four overall on the season. In her last seven appearances overall, the junior has not allowed a run over 28.1 innings pitched. She has not allowed an extra base hit over the run, giving up just 10 singles and two walks, while striking out 43.
