The legislature passed a bill amending the Mississippi Telephone Solicitation Act of 2003.
It's taken 13 long years to get this law passed.
Lawmakers turned a deaf ear to these unwanted solicitations year after year. This even though most Mississippians now use cell phones and not house phones.

Mississippi ranks first in the country in cell phone only households.
The State Attorney General Jim Hood says, passage of the bill is a victory for Mississippi consumers who are tired of picking up their cell phones only to learn an out-of-state telemarketer on the other end of the line trying to sell you something.
