First Alert Meteorologist Heather Sophia and Chief Photographer Mike Evans chased severe storms on Thursday. They drove through torrential rain, hail and strong winds. Hail fell in buckets in Annanadale, a neighborhood in Madison County.

Across the I-55, pea size hail accumulated quickly. So much fell, it almost looked like blankets of snow. If that wasn't enough, wind knocked over large trees, blocking the entrance to the Deerfield community in Madison County. One resident explained what it was like when he was inside this home when the tree fell on his house.

"It was scary. We would go to the windows and there was so much lightning we would have to get back, it was pretty severe," said storm victim Tip Jacob.

Residents were in the dark as power crews worked to restore power Thursday night.
