JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Thousands will flock to the streets of Jackson this weekend as the Zippity Doo Dah Weekend gets into full swing Saturday.

In the morning, a flea market in Fondren kicks off at 7:30 a.m, featuring everything from yard to tent sales.

At 10 a.m., Sal & Mookie's Street Carnival begins, with carnival games, a dunking booth and much more family-friendly fun.

The highlight -- and end -- of the festival, though, is the introduction of the Sweet Potato Queens and start of the parade at sundown.

Elaborate floats, marching bands, and plenty of beads will line the parade route.

These activities help raise money for the Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital each year, and the 2016 proceeds will go toward helping cancer patients.

"This will provide us with what's called a clean room, which means that right here in our clinic, where our children come for treatment for cancer and blood disorders, they can get their medications made right here," said Dr. Melissa Rhodes, a pediatric hematologist and oncologist for the hospital. "We're so grateful."

Two years ago, that money went toward purchasing a special van for palliative care patients.

In 2015, the hospital purchased six giraffe beds with the money raised from the Zippity Doo Dah Weekend.
