Yazoo City Officer hit by vehicle is out of hospital

YAZOO CITY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Yazoo City Police Chief Jeff Curtis says an officer who was hit, Thursday by a vehicle, is now out of the hospital.

Chief Curtis said around 3:30 p.m. Thursday, one of his officers tried to initiate a traffic stop at 14th Street and Calhoun, but the driver, identified as 26-year-old Cruzette Lofton, failed to stop.

Curtis says shots were fired after the officer was injured by Lofton.

Officials say Lofton received non life-threatening injuries after being shot by the officer.

Curtis says the case has been turned over to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
