Volunteers spruce up the city during the Great American Cleanup

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

It's time for spring cleaning and Keep Jackson Beautiful joins the effort across the country Saturday to spruce up the city.

The Great American Cleanup is underway with volunteers tackling trash and litter in neighborhoods around Metrocenter Mall.

Members of Tau Upsilon Nu Fraternity at Jackson State University spent the morning cleaning up trash along city streets.

They collected a wide variety of tossed out items, even several tires.

"Keep Jackson Beautiful does this each year during March, April and May. We're part of Keep America Beautiful and all across the country we join other volunteers getting out in their neighborhood and their community," said Marsha Hobson, Co-Director of Keep Jackson Beautiful.

"It makes a huge impact. The community becomes a brighter place. People see the community in a better way," said Deonta Kilpatrick President of Tau Upsilon Nu. "While they're also cleaning he community, helping the community out, we're also building brotherhood and comradery".

The next cleanup is April 6th in Presidential Hills.
