RIDGELAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

More heated discussion in Ridgeland Tuesday night about the proposed location of a new Costco store. It was standing room only as those opposed to the plan continued to lash out at Mayor Gene McGee and city aldermen.

The crowd was so large people poured into adjoining rooms at Ridgeland City Hall. They are leaving no doubt about where they stand on building the big box retailer on land south of the Renaissance Mall.

"People that moved to Ridgeland came because it was a good development and all they're asking..they want the same quality of life to exist. It's not opposition to Costco placed in a proper location,"said former city planner Rony Johnson, who lives in Ridgeland.

Many of those who spoke at the meeting said building the Costco near Renaissance will lead to the deterioration of Ridgeland and turn the area into another County Line Road.
