JPS kicks off summer reading program

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Jackson Public Schools will engage its 30,000 students with 100,000 books!
On Wednesday, the school district rallied together to celebrate "Read On Jackson", the summer reading program with a spirited pep rally.

Students gathered at Murrah High School as Superintendent Dr. Cedrick Gray stressed the importance of summer reading. He says it helps prevent learning loss over the summer months.

The Rickey Smiley foundation donated 8,000 books for the cause. Our own Joy Redmond was also on hand. She's the JPS Summer Reading Ambassador!
