PEARL, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Electric car company Tesla is gaining nationwide popularity. Recently they boasted they had 325,000 preorders for it's new Model 3.

Now the newest attraction at the Outlets of Mississippi is tied to the electric car company. This 8 bay Tesla supercharging station opened recently.  Owners of the electric cars can get a full charge here, in less than an hour.

"We are the perfect location for them because we are right in the middle of Mississippi, we are close enough to Memphis, we're close to New Orleans," said Kathy Hackshaw, General manager of the Outlets of Mississippi

Tesla is creating a network of charging stations, for their vehicles that can go about 250 miles before needing a recharge.

"Tesla puts us on their website, Tesla customers see where the charge stations are," added Hackshaw. "The day after it was announced, we had a Tesla customer drive over from Meridian because she could come over here, charge her car while she was shopping and go home."

Jackson attorney and Tesla owner Fred Krutz is excited to see the supercharger station nearby.  He say's it's a sign the popularity of  clean energy cars is on the move.

"It's cleaner, good for the environment, they're fast, they're quiet, it's kind of like driving a computer," said Krutz.

Krutz has a model S. There's absolutely nothing under the hood, but after driving it for over year, he's sold.

"I haven't had this much fun and been excited about a car since my first car," said Krutz

Charging is absolutely free at the stations, another reason why you may see Tesla owners often sporting a large smile, thinking about the gas money they saved.
