MDOT enforcement officers seize over a hundred pounds of marijuana in Warren County

Late Wednesday night enforcement officers with the Mississippi Department of Transportation seized approximately 140 pounds of marijuana.  Officers stopped a 2004 Freightliner tractor and van trailer at the I-20 eastbound inspection facility in Warren County around 10:15 p.m.

The trailer was loaded with pallets of canned olives being transported from Corning, California to Plant City, Florida.

According to a press release from MDOT, the officers opened the trailer to verify the load, and observed a black duffel bag near the rear of the trailer between the pallets.  The duffel bag contained several vacuum sealed plastic bags containing approximately two pounds of high grade marijuana buds.  Officers then located seven more duffel and garbage bags containing various sized bags of marijuana. The marijuana is valued around $3,000 to $4,000 dollars per pound.

An investigation of the source and destination of the marijuana is being conducted by the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and MDOT Enforcement.  The Vicksburg Police Department and Warren County Sheriff's Department assisted with the preliminary investigation. The tractor and trailer were impounded, the olives will be released to the owner.

32 year old Nertil Xhelo of Jacksonville, Florida, the owner and driver of the tractor was charged with possession of marijuana and is being held in the Warren County jail pending arraignment.
